    Default light control unit

just wondering if any of you guys had heard of this

got the vec last week and few days later my dad was swapping cards round on the drive and i told him the drivers side brake light was out,

anyway we gets the holder out and theres no bulb in, so get a bulb put it in the holder (without ignition or any lights switched on) and it pulses and if you switch sidelights on the brake bulb stays lit as if brakes are pressed, and this is only on driver side

our auto electrician we use reckons its the light control unit at the back and will be a 400 quid job + tech2 time

weve taken car back indipendant dealer we got it from and looks like hes trying to get out of doing it on the 90 day warrenty but weve been advised by cit advise we can get money back in small claims,

hes getting his auto electricion to check it out on monday to see what the problem says

any coments advise would be welcome

    cheers

There was no bulb failure warning lamp on the dash ??

Sounds like the car has an electrical fault and yes it could be expensive. The fact that the dealer knowingly sold a vehicle (you would assume that they would have made this basic check) without working brake lights is a bit suspect to say the least.

Had a problem like this on a jaguar s-type, turned out to be a blown fuse on another light circuit caused by someone fitting the wrong bulbs.
it is worth just checking all the fuses and bulbs.

Am I right in thinking that there is a back-up circuit on the Vec c that will illuminate a brake light bulb, if the tail light for that side fails...

Try checking the tail light on that side...

just realised u said check the sidelight , yep thats fine , as soon as we put a bulb in the right place it started pulsing (no lights or ignition on) then when we switched the sidelights on it came on bright as if pressing brake pedal and this is only on the drivers side
