    Default Spongey/weak brakes HELP!

Hi, im getting towards the end of my current vectra project now, but if found yet another problem.... basicly the brakes are pants!.

The car has been stood for probably 6 months accept to be moved around my drive and the workshop etc, i went for a spin yesterday and the brakes are really numb feeling and take a fair bit of effort to stop the car, they just dont have that "sharp" feel to them. I just put it down to surface rust on the discs and did a few quick blasts followed by heavy braking to try and clear them but they wont get any better, im wondering if the brakes may have become seized up slightly? do the 1.8 sri's have servicable calipers? ie can i strip them and clean them up and grease any moving parts etc to try and free them up?

The pads seem to have plenty left on them but the discs are slightly ridged on the edge and rusty.Am i better of binning them and getting new discs and pads because of the time left stood?

Need to sort this ASAP as im sure i wont get an MOT with these brakes!

    Any suggestions please?

If you look in the for sale section there are some 302mm calipers for sale.

If its been standing around and the brakes are weak/need alot of pressure then i would say the brake fluid has moisture in it.
change and bleed and see what its like then m8.

don't worry about the disc rims.

What about the servo, is it working. Quick test - put you foot hard on the brake pedal and turn the engine on. The pedal should sink further to the floor.
or it could be the fluid, could air get into the system ????

Good idea, will try that and then failing all else bleed the system through. As far as air in the system goes i would say no not while i have had it anyway, no brake lines or calipers have been off.

I stripped the front pads out today and cleaned the discs up on the edges with a wire brush. I found the pads were a bit "crumbley" on the edges and looked quite glazed to me so bought some new pads on my way home and will fit them tomorrow and see if there is an improvement.
