    Default springs for a GSi

    Hi,

Could someone confirm the best type of springs for a GSi. I don't want to change the drop, I want to keep it standard.

I need to replace the fronts, just wondering if there are any saving buy a full back/front kit.

Would prefer not to go down the vaux route, the aftermarket shocks seem much better.

    Cheers

Problem is that the majority of quality after-market springs are aimed at those who want a lower ride; finding springs of the original height, other than no-brand ebay stuff, can be quite hard.

As far as I have found out something like a set (x 4) of Eibachs (from the chaps in the link below) are around £160. That is a drop of 30mm, not sure what drop the standards are.

I also gather there are different sets for different axel weights 1060kg and 1130kg. Need to check the car when I get home.

The SRi is 15mm lower than a standard Vec, and I think the GSi is the same.

Oh - thanks Jezzy, 30mm is a bit different to 15mm.

As above so if you but a set of Eibachs 30mm drop it will drop yours by a further 15mm not 30mm and they look sweet as I have had mine done

Thanks kns, I was going tio try and keep it relatively standard.

When I fessed up about the s/s exh it added a fair bit to the insurance premium (direct line). The site recomended insurance company may be more understanding but I've still got a bit of time to run on the existing policy. Cheers

    I am tempted though

I had to have both front struts replaced on my GSi last year at Mot time. It had a broken front spring and the springs themselves were not available as separate parts so I had to shell out for the whole assembly.

No aftermarket springs were available at the time and like you I wanted to keep the car standard rather than lower the height. Things may have changed now, but I suspect you may be stuck with Vx parts if you want to keep it standard.

Hi D18, managed to get a new set of springs from Vaux (sad bit is they were the same price as the full lowering kit £160). The garage also replaced one end of the steering rack which had some play in it (common vectra problem apparently).

Seem to have spent a fortune on the car recently, and none of it bling
