    Default Flood water.....

On the way to the Hospital yesterday to see the mrs, I was faced with a foot of standing water. There is only one route to the hospital from where I live.

I did the usual thing - keep the revs up and speed low.

Then some stupid ar$e comes flying past the other way, creates a tidal wave and floods the engine bay of the Signum.

It stuttered like Gareth Gates but didnt die. I made it thru the water and it took about 5 mins of gentle revving to get the engine back to its normal self.

Would this have done any lasting damage, as it seems to be running fine now.

    Cheers

It was caused by the monumental hail / rain / thunder storm yesterday morning. Left foot deep floods everywhere around here

If it is running fine now, then it is probably OK.

The water could just have affected the electrics, and now it has dried out it is running as it should.

I would take a look at the air filter and see if it a soggy mess, or split. This should tell you if the engine has had a drink of water or not.

You can also dip the oil to see if it's still at the normal level. It would be high if water had got in, and the filler cap would be covered in condensation or a creamy mix of oil and water.

Serious damage is done when the engine takes in water through the air intake which stops the engine dead when the piston comes up on the compression stroke.

    Hope this helps.

Sounded like it was electrical more than anything. Car starts fine now, no poor running. Will dismantle the air filter when I can

    Thanks for that
