    Default towbar electrics

    hiya,

I've just finished fitting a towbar I bought off a member on here however I can't get the electrics working. It's the witter electrics which are specific for the Vectra however I think a bit is missing. Does anyone know what the part marked below is for and if it is required?

    thanks!

PS why do they refer to the hatchback as GTS? is it a european thing?

On the vx electrics thats the trailer module that plugs into the fuse box. Don't know if you need it for witter electrics though. Is that diagram the witter one??

Oh and the GTS is the opel version of the SRi

That's the trailer module. i.e. what connects into the Rear Electrical Centre and controls all the electrics on the towbar.

You can wire up without it but it's a damn site easier with it.

Yes, GTS is a european thing.

Yes the pic above is a section of the fitting instructions for the witter electric cable.

with witter, the item marked "1" has the wires going down to the 12N socket for the trailer, I guess the item marked "2" is like a loop module or something that lets the electrics know it's using the other socket (where "1" plugs into) instead of the Vx one?

No mate number 2 is the module that tells the car it's towing a trailer and allows the bulb failure to monitor the trailer. It also allows the light on the dash to flash with the trailer indicators. The actual socket plugs in on number 1 on the vx electrics too

is it a seperate item from Vx or does it just come as part of the wiring kit?

have PM'd the guy asking if he still has it attached to his vectra but just in case he's sold his vectra I'm just trying to figure out how I can resolve this without forking out £50 for a new wiring kit.

    Hi knoxvillian

Part 2 is the main bit of the wiring it integrates the trailer into the Canbus, part 1 is the vehicle end of the trailer wiring and part 3
is the fuse that powers it all up. The VX wiring module is about £45, just get the seller to pay for it if they can't find it as a towbar
    kit is pointless without.

That part number 2 is part of the kit - I've just fitted genuine Vx electrics to my Westphalia towbar.

Check with the seller to see whether he left it in the old car by mistake, but it should go with the rest of the wiring.
