Default Dual mass flywheel now changed, some piccys

Car was rattling more and more when clutch pedal was being pressed although no rattles at top of travel or at bottom, decided it must be the dmf and it was. Changed it monday, took about 6 hours but was going for it. When investigating what goes wrong with them, it appears to be the axial movement that gets worse from what I could see. The damping movement seemed fine, suggesting lots of clutch operation is the cause of premature failure, can't see why the suggestion of pressing the clutch when starting would reduce wear as the ring gear is attached to the flywheel part that is directly bolted to the crank. Anyhow all is well now and no rattling, happy days.

You`ve done well in 6 hours mate! I do mine the same way, in the drive on axle stands. Did you have fun getting to the starter bolts? or did you take egr valve off? lol. They arnt easy to do on yer own are they?

Didn't remove egr valve to get at starter bolts, just undid the bolts and left starter in situ, ensure you make a note of which bolts come out of the engine to gearbox as one around the back has a fine thread, i tried to refit a coarse threaded bolt back in and damaged a couple of threads obviously. When battery box is out there's quite alot of room to gain access to stuff, Flywheel is heavy and the bolts are mega tight, think its a T60 torx you need and a large bar. there's an oil drain plug to drain oil which is handy. No level plug on refilling though, just put the right amount in which in my case was 3.5 litres of automatic transmission fluid for the F40 6 speed. Drivers side drive shaft does not have a circlip holding it in to the gearbox as its held in by by intermediat shaft bearing, just undo this, lift it of the dowels and tap it outwards to draw the shaft out. when I took the flywheel off there was a disintegrated plastic ring in the centre of the flywheel which I suspect is the cause of failure.

also ensure when lifting subframe into position that radiator lower mounts go into their grommets in the subframe itself, any misalignment and you'll break the mounts
