Default Went for a drive and ended up in..........(Pic Heavy 56k beware)

SCOTLAND!!! Only 350mls from my house. Knowing that I have this week off work and just finished spraying the beetle with its final coat of lacquer, I decided to go for a drive. Packed a few essentials in the siggy and off I went. Got to Edinburgh, and saw some sign posts for Forth road bridge, so off I headed. (nice bridge, poor road!! Whats with all the steel braces across the tarmac every 20 yrds?) From the bridge I followed the costal road for a bout 20-30 miles and ended up in a place called BurntIsland. Abit further up the road was a place called pettycuy bay (I think) so stopped there the night at a caravan park. I haven't been to Scotland since I was a young un and had completly forgot how nice the views are. Next day headed upto St. Andrews, had a look round, then decided to head back to home. Got to Edinburgh and got lostish, couldn't find any signposts for A1, so set the satnav for home. It only took me to the M8 to Glasgow, then the M74 to Carlisle, then the M6 to Manchester, M61 and M62 to leeds where I eventually joined back up the A1. All in all 821 mile round trip. 1.75 tanks of petrol. The 1st full tank i was getting 38.4 m/gal, which i was pretty impressed with considering she's a 2.0T, the second tank was not so good, only getting 32.4 m/gal but I did use CC a lot. Here's a couple of pics.

My other car. 1972 1641cc slammed beetle. On the road finally!!

Well I thought driving up the local by-pass wasn't gonna cut the mustard this time. so just did the job properly.

You should have popped in for tea and biscuits on your way past my house! (I stay 3 mins north of the Forth Road Bridge!)

I drive across the bridge every day and also hate the joins in the road....

A lovely run matey, sounds like you enjoyed yourself, and thanks for sharing the pics.

I know the area very well, We were up at Charleston, Kessock, just north of Inverness a few weeks ago. Usually have at least 1 or 2 weeks a year up there. Lovely area.

I did something similar to you several years ago, after one of our very rare bad marriage arguments. (Ignoring my business) I just jumped in the car and went touring Scotland for 10days, stopping at various hotels on route, had a great time, and ended up travelling right up top to Thurso, John o'Groats etc. Nice to disappear and be on your own sometimes...LOL
