Any ideas what sort of cost to have a tow bar fitted along with the appropriate electrics?

My Dad just had one fitted by an independant fitter in the Stokesly area for £300. It's a Witter detachable with electrics on his XP Sri Auto Hatch. I have one on my estate. Would recommend it quite discrete when not in use and easy to fit. VX would want at least £100 more.

Basic tow bars start at £80
Demountable and detachable versions start at £150/£200

Typical fitting prices vary between £60 and £120

If you have a fully comp policy, then contact them and ask for some recommendations on local suppliers/fitters

How handy are you with the spanners mate - it's not a complicated job to be honest. I've got a Westfalia detachable towbar that's completely invisible when not in use and I fitted it myself in half a day.

I've actually just removed it from the Vectra I've sold and will be fitting it to the new Vectra I'm getting. It came off completely in around an hour or so.

I'd be happy to put a 'How To' together when I fit it if anyones interested?

yeah if you want to stick up a How To that'd be great, I bought a towbar off a member on here and it should be arriving today. intending on fitting it myself today or tomorrow weather permitting.

I've gone for a fixed towbar because all though the detatchables are more discrete, I like the fact the fixed on offers some protection to the back end of the car.

I'll do one then, but it won't be done in time for when you fit yours

And dont forget to mention to your insurance company that the vehicle will be used occasionaly for towing. Many overlook doing this, and find they are not covered for towing when something happens.
    Always worth checking.
