    Default Failed mot vt30

    Hi folks

Vectra failed MOT today on -

(1)Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after second fast idle excessive

(2)Exhaust emissions lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

    (3)OSF brake pipe excessively corroded

    (4)NSR brake pads worn

    (5)OSR coil spring is incomplete

    Few advisers, nothing major.

Now, the only thing I'm worried about is the emissions. I'M used to working on older turbocharger card'ed engines, where a simple tune on the carb would get it through the emissions test, with fueling being electronically controlled on this I need a little help..

    Firstly, the emissions printout -

    oil temp 80 c (PASS)

    fast idle test- (FAIL)

    speed 2820/min (PASS)
    CO 0.48%vol (FAIL)
    HC 61 ppm (PASS)

    2nd fast idle test- (FAIL)

    speed 2830/min (PASS)
    CO 0.48%vol (FAIL)
    HC 72 ppm (PASS)

    Natural idle teat- (PASS)

    speed 690/min (PASS)
    CO 0.49 (PASS)

Plugged in the scanner and got -

    P0100 and P0170
Mass or volume air flow malfunction
    Fuel trim malfunction

There is a fuel spike under load, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears it feels like a misfire at higher revs, but I tested plugs/ coil-packs and they are fine so it must be a fueling issue..

Would I be correct in replacing the two lambda sensors and the air flow meter ?
I can run another diagnostic and post up the full results if needed, just I cant remember off the top of my head

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated folks..

    Engine is X18XE

Looks like the Maf could do with a good clean mate. Shoot some carb cleaner down the intake with the filter out, also make sure you have a nice new air filter in there.

Thanks for that mate, the car is running rich going by the smell and the plugs, would a good clean out of the MAF help?

I would rather strip down and clean then spray a cold aerosol into a warm engine inlet manifold though.

I guess the "Fuel trim malfunction" is the trimming of the lean/rich mixture ??
