Default 3.0 CDTi Y30DT engine oil temperature

Does anyone here know what should be the oil temperature on a 3.0CDTi?
Aparently this is what kills them...Some have reported over 200°C...

I've never seen any oil temperatures published for this engine
Contact Isuzu, see what they say

Anyone fitted an oil temp. guage to their car?
I only heard of a guy who fitted one to a 9-5 3.0TiD and after 10min of fast motorway driving it went off the scale

The Saabs had smaller sumps IIRC and an oil level that was too low,not to mention a radiator that was too small and a gearbox that twisted due to the torque inputted into it.Definitely not a candidate for a remap or tuning box.LOL

No problems with mine on motorways or anywhere else for that matter.First sign of oil getting too hot would be it evaporating with a consequential drop of the level.Never used a drop since I bought it!

Correct. Saabs had smaller sumps and shorter dipsticks plus airflow around the engine alluminium block was restricted thus the engine failures.

Can you please check for blow by on your motor mate? Warm the engine up nicely, open the oilcap and check if there is much steam or smoke coming out. Mine doesn't force much smoke out, seems like it's just heat or something.LOL Also, could you please take a clip of your engine running. I'd like to hear how a healthy Y30DT sounds like. lol

Can't wait to get rid of mine...and get another one, maybe an SRi. Can a human being really be that stupid?

I regularly (about once a month) run mine to temperature, remove the oil cap, and watch for any unusual vapours
So far nothing, and that is with mine now on 85K miles

My engine (on idle) doesn't like it did from new, unless I've got used to it!

Another thing I have noticed is the big difference between taking the oil reading between cold, warm, and HOT
I've not filled mine up since the last service (22 Dec 2008 / 67K miles) and it's now at the minimum on cold
Once warm it is slightly above the minimum
However, once HOT the level is at the maximum!
I used to always take the reading when cold

Mine is just below max on cold, slightly above max on warm and about a cm over max when HOT!

Does it have the correct oil dipstick?
If the oil is slightly above max on warm, then it has too much oil in it

One thing I have noticed that after a service and with the engine cold my car is about half way between max and min
Initially I thought this was wrong, but as per the label on the engine bay "Check oil level once engine is warm"

edit : I now have two videos ready for upload
The first is where the engine is cold
The second is where the engine has been run at high speed, but has then cooled down

I believe that only Saabs and Renaults had the wrong dipsticks.

I serviced it myself and I put in 7.5l of 5w30 GM oil.

I'd like to hear both. My engine sounds OK-ish when cold, but has a ticking noise when hot/warm. I'll ask a friend to lend me a nokia cable so I can upload the videos of my engine running.

    EDIT:
I have now checked the oil level with the hot engine running and it was on max.

Maybe a 'higher mileage' engine would be better off with 10w-40 or even 15w-50 oil.You can get these as 'fully synthetics'.I've had no problems with 10w-40 changed annually (approx 4-6,000 miles).

A friend who has a 150,000 mile diesel Passat noticed that his engine was significantly quieter and used less oil when using the 'thicker' oil.
