Default cambelt change 2003 1.8 SRI

Just a bit suprised as when purchased my 1.8 SRI was assured by salesman(known purveyors of truth) that all vectra c models had camchains not belts
Having just reached 36000 miles have been told by local garage that they advise cambelt change at 40000 miles
They assured me car does have cambelt
    Anybody know the truth?
Also at 20,000 miles per annum sounds like cambelt change every 2 years which sounds too much
    Any advise welcome
Also is it easy DIY or should I just pay out the £210( including tensioners)
    Thanks
    Geoff

Pretty sure only the 2.0T, 2.2 petrol and 2.0/2.2 DTI models are cam chain, all the others are cambelt - including your 1.8. So the salesman was nearly right!

Personally, I'd take it for the professionals to do, unless you're very confident with that kind of thing...

£210 is a good price, considering the Vx kit is around £90 to £100.

    3-4 hours work.

The belt kit isn't hard to fit.. although there are no manuals for the C the engine is a carry over from the Vec B..And haynes do a manual for these.. Time to do the job..Over an hour and i'm ashamed with myself..You will need to change the rollers as well as the belt. these have a nasty habit of breaking up, with obvious results..Buy the full kit..

And yes, the change interval is 40K..
