    Question Tuning boxes - opinions?

Does anybody have experience, good or bad, of plug-in tuning boxes?

I've asked a question about a specific brand, "Cheetah" in the Diesel Tuning forum, if anybody's interested.

I have had a dragon box on my 3.0 V6 for 18 months with not so much as a limp mode flicker. Some others have had problems though and I think it is luck of the draw. Others recommend Re-maps because the are 'considered' kinder on the engine, In my opinion anything that increases the power is going to increase the wear and tear and as such is all a gamble.

I couldnt take my tuning box off my V6 now as the performance drop off is just to much to take.

dont forget that all engines are built to allow certain peramiter changes as they are all detuned to meet emissions law's.....

But don't forget that even within those perameters engines and their associated components are still capable of being unreliable.

For example,I just found out why Saab cut back the torque output on the V6 CDTI engine on their 9-5 model. It was because anything above 258ft/lbs (350Nm) was actually twisting the casing on the F35 5 speed gearbox! You wouldn't want to put a tuning box on one of those now would you! ?

Another example is the new twin turbo diesel Insignia that's just been launched.180 (190?) bhp and 295 ft/lbs (400Nm) torque.Surely it's capable of more than that! I hear you cry.Well indeed it is,but it's also saddled with the same F40 (400Nm) gearbox as the rest of us are.LOL
