    Default K & N Air filter - it works!

    Vectra Elite 2.2 Auto

Just fitted the flat filter and it definitely has made a difference - not just because I want it to.]
Pick up is quicker - there was a flat spot at lower speeds - and it seems to get a second breath when you build the revs.
It's just added that little something that I had wished was there. Why didn't they fit one as a factory build?

I'm curious to know if the people that have seen an improvement with a K&N have gone from an old OEM filter that needed replacing or if anyone went from a new/clean OEM and still saw a difference.

From what I've read, and the fact that I plan on keeping the car for a good while, I'm staying well away from cotton "performance" filters. They supposedly offer little to no airflow improvement with far worse particle filtration. Then there's the risk of killing the MAF if you oil the filter incorrectly.

So, for a fiver a year for a new OEM paper jobbie (that I do see a difference with when new), I could go for almost ten years for the cost of a K&N and have the peace of mind that I'm not sucking in stuff that may well cost me big in the long run. For me, it's longevity over a few extra bhp, I guess.
