    Default Stealer service 'Con'

Enquired about the cost of a service at the dealer yesterday.

    Silver £223 Inc
    Gold £298 Inc

So i go ahead and ask the obvious...

'What do I get extra with the Gold one'

'well sir...... Pollen Filter, Spark Plugs, Battery for your key fob...'

Well seeing as my Glow Plugs dont need changing to 80k and i did my own key fob a few weeks ago for 50p

I think i will pass on the £75 pollen filter thank you !!!!!

Just yesterday I rang round three of my local VX dealers to get a major service (4year) for a 1.9 CDTi.

About the best was Drive Vaux in leices, offering a full service at a staggering £280+vat! They do say they change all the cooling fluids, brake fluids, full diesel injector flush, EGR valve clean, full filter swap etc. Think they mentioned a Tech 2 plug in too (although don't quote me). Oh, and they give you a 1ltr bottle of engine oil when you leave too.

Not sure whether they'll like me for this, but I pushed them, and got it down by 10%, which still makes it not far off £300 after vat!!!

They are also offering a full A/C debac job for £20 atm. So i'm going to have that done as mines a bit pongy.

But I feel your pain, for a stamp in a book, just seams a little steap.

I think it might be worth finding a local garage with a good reputation rather than with sticking with VX dealerships. My last full service (including VAT) only cost £155.63. And that included new wiper blades which aren't part of the standard service anyway.

I must admit I didn't get a new battery in my keyfob though!!! I'll have to remember to tell them to do a better job next time.

Parapaul got at least 3 different quotes from VX dealerships for the cambelt on his 2.8 V6 Turbo Signum. Looking at around the 500 squid mark, which is roughly what he was expecting.

One more call to Midpoint garage confirmed it's a chain driven engine...

    My last service which included:
    - Cambelt and tensioners (mate at local garage labour)
    - Waterpump (mate at local garage labour)
    - New Aux/fan belt (mate at local garage labour)
    - New EGR valve fitted (did myself)
    - Cleaned boost sensor (did myself)
    - Cleaned air filter (K&N) (did myself)

Cost me £100 in labour and £230 in parts BARGAIN

I've got standard oil and filter service up again soon which will be a doddle

The big thing for me is the service history. I bought the car and it hadn't had any VX specific dealers looking at it, just local garages.

Including the garage which I bought it from, quoting it needed a cambelt change at its next service (done 47k), which all three VX dealers told me my veccy didn't need doing and certainly wouldn't advise this work be carried out. Especailly as I was quoted around the £450-500 mark (inclusive of waterpump).

One VX dealer also mentioned carrying out modifications to the handbrake spring, which apparently should have been carried out on all Vectras due to the loss of braking pressure when the brakes cool.

So from what I can tell, for resale value, a service history is prefered, but having VX specific dealers looking at the car doesn't help with resale value?

For major service work it seams for obvious reason VX know what their doing, and appear to give a more comprehensive job on the car, but is this neccessary for every service? And are they charging a competative rate? I used to get my last ford petrol car done at offical dealers and I never had to pay 300quid for a major service. Is it a diesel thing, or VX in general?
