Default How do I get a category C1 licence

    Hello guys,
I recently applied to London ambulance for a trainee paramedic postion. They have asked me weather I have a C1 category licence. Im 22 and have held a clean licence for the last 4 years. On my licence the category bit says B,B1 and fkp. So how can I get a category C1 can I do a test or something or do I have to wait till im 25.

    Thanks

    Default Cat C1 application

If you look at the DVLA website there are several links that give you all the details you need to establish how to apply and get your C1 entitlement.

Has the ambulance service indicated that this is a pre requisite for the post as many of the services provide their own training for their vehicles in any case.

    hope this helps

    Tom

Will take a look at the DVLA website. The Email i got states "for paramedics, technicians, trainee technicians and A&E support you must have category C1 on your driving licence if you passed your test after 1/1/97"

Hey mate, i can help you here. You will basicly need to complete a LGV2 or class 2 as it used to be called this wont be cheap and costs around £1k! This will alow you to drive anything from a van (ambulance) and any rigid large goods vehicles.

People who passed there test before 1997 had entitlement to drive vehicles upto 7.5T, in my opinion this should never have been the case as any tom dick or harry who has only ever run about in a car can go and hire a light truck which may even have an air brake system and tacho etc and has never had any tuition in driving a large vehicle, a bit of a mental thought if you ask me.

the link posted by fingers is a bit wrong....
a C1 licence is basically a 7.5ton licence, as stated it will probably cost between 600-1000 pounds
a catagory C licence is over 7.5ton, and not over 3.5ton as the site says
also you have to pass a theory and hazard perception test for each licence, ie:C1, then C then C+E
all 3 licences are 600-1000 each although you can normally get a deal for about 1200-1500 to do all 3
