Talking Woooooohhoooooooooo!!! - got my car back!!!

Well after being without my car for six weeks!, I got it back today - along with the few mods I had done. So without further ado, heres the piccies and then I'll do the talking bit! ..............

Yes, I know the car is filthy. I took it for a spirited drive first!!

As you can see, it now has the Vectra VXR estate side skirts and the Signum facelift rear skirt instead of the black ones I had before.

A huuuuuge thanks to Andyvec for sorting out the side skirts. I had arranged with him, long before the accident, to get the side skirts and rear skirt from him. Then I had the smack so the new rear skirt came under the insurance claim.

To say he went out of his way would be an understatement! When I was up in Wakefield earlier this year, he met me half-way between there and Liverpool so that he could show me the VXR skirt up close, to see if I liked it!

I've got one slight 'issue' to resolve with the skirts. I can only assume that on the VXR estate, the rear arches are a bit more flared as there is a tiny gap at the top of the skirt. You'd hardly notice it, but I'm a stickler for detail! I'll have to have a twiddle and see if I can bring it in a bit.

So on top of those bits, it had the front bumper resprayed (stone chips) as well as the wing wirror covers (scuffs).

The great thing was that they only charged £100 to paint the skirts and £150 for the bumper. I thought it was going to be VAT on top, but that was all inclusive! They also re-painted the mirror covers FOC!

The different parking sensors kit is much better than the last one i.e. much more audible and the sensors are that bit smaller and flatter - so just neater overall.

There was obviously all the repair work done new tailgate, bumper and all the welding/panels etc. Irmscher roof spoiler replaced as it wouldn't come off the old tailgate without getting damaged.

The sharp-eyed amongst you may have noticed that I am without the Ed Taylor colour coded bee sting! When I picked up the car I noticed that it had a big scrape of paint taken off it. They guy was a bit surprised. Then he wondered if when they were using the cheese wire to remove the tailgate glass, whether they caught the aerial. Anyway, he took it and said he'd get the bodyshop to paint it! So that'll be an even better finish than my VX aerosol job!

    Now the bad news.........

After getting the car, I went straight to the specialist tyre place I use. It needed to have three new tyres fitted. When I went to collect the car I noticed that the numpty that did them managed to damage an alloy!!! He then tried to deny it was him, or said it was there already!! It was obvious that it was fresh damage, so I had a word with the owner - who I know well. As soon as he saw it, he could see it was new damage - three areas right where the tyre meets the alloy, so obviously done by manhandling in the tyre machine. So without any quibble whatsoever I'm going to get it refurbed next week FOC. I've never had any problem with this place whatsoever - they've always been very good. I just think this f**kwit was being sloppy or having a bad day. I'll take the opportunity to get my kerbed front N/S done at the same time.

When I got back I remapped it and went for a drive. Oh yes, is all I can say. Remap and Irmscher suspension brought a big smile to my face. You can keep your facelift SRi hire car - this wipes the floor with the handling!

So, one very happy chappy and very pleased to finally have the car back. It was a while, but well worth the wait as I now have got a few added improvements.

I'm now off to give the car a damn good clean!!!

Duncan - those side skirts look the the business! - do they fit over the existing or replace? I assumed replace but in your pic where you show the gap near the arch it looks like the existing skirt is still there as it wraps around the corner.

All the mods look very subtle but very different - if you get what I mean - kind of classy!

just wished I could keep my car now.
