I take it by tap washer fix you mean the inlet bar?

You wont be able to move the 3rd flap as that is the one attached to the motor and that drives the others via the bar?

I take it the inlet bar had fallen off?

You may have the bar on too tight now you have the tap washers on the bar and the motor not able to open the flaps - that will give you a constant spanner light...... whats the code?

Had the same issue for the last three weeks m8 and it was found to be a bust intercooler. But.... It was also pointed out that my swirl pot rod had popped off and had allowed the manifold to soot up so I needed a new manifold.

As I say you wont be able to move the bar as the 3rd one is linked to the solonide (motor).

TBH - if the bar hadnt come off - it was doing its job, so would have left it. the tap washers may be too tight on the swirl tops therefore not allowin the motor to open the swirl flaps..

When you say EML - do you mean the orange engine symbol - thats actually the emissions light on later cars. Could be where the swirl flaps arnt able to move I guess - but I think that normally throws a spanner light - still possible tho..

Mate - I had to have a new inlet and all at 36K and 7 months over 3 years - VX wouldnt pay a penny and I took it up to VX UK.
even the dealers said its a pure design issue - but still nothing.. sorry!

to confirm they are moving. look at position with engine off. Then start engine and recheck position, they should have moved.
