Default Thinking of buying a Gsi

I am thinking about buying a Vectra C GSI. What are they like? I will be going for a black one if the info is ok with them . Whats the performance like "me coming from a Gsi Turbo Astra" , what they like on fuel, do they break down often, when will the cam chain need replaced? Cheers for any info on this model . I was also maybe thinking of getting a 2.2 direct, but more looking into the Gsi for now. Cheers

I dont know too much, but have heard they are pretty solid lumps.

Power is good, think its about 210bhp ?? Not sure if they suffer head gasket problems later on in life like the old 2.5's ?

Thats not too bad then, I will try and find one with about 50k on the clock. It will be a car that won't get used much, maybe once a week as I work loads and have a works van. This will be my little toy lol

I was looking at the spec between the two, Gsi Turbo and Gsi Vec. The Gsi Vec has more torque, quicker top end looks decent enough on paper, I would have thought the Gsi Astra would be quicker. The Vec Gsi has some nice toys, and it's a 5 door car that I am after

As per. Mine doesn't feel as quick as the Astra Turbo, but for a larger car it goes well.
40k for the cam belt change and fuel is on par with the Astra Turbo. Pretty bomb proof too. Just have a look on here for some as there will be a few for sale.

hi mark, did you mangae to sell the project? you should of kept it, after all the hard work,

the gsi are heavy on fuel, and tax so think about it, have you considered a 1.9 CDTI 150

Are the engines chain driven? Sure I seen a post saying that some place. I am very interested, the Gsi Vec ticks all the boxes for me

IIRC, the Vec GSi is considerably heavier than the Astra. Your best bet re. outright performance is to work out the bhp/tonne and the torque/tonne.

I've got a GSi auto, and whilst I think the performance is OK for a big car, I think the Astra would come out on tops in the performance stakes over the GSi.

If it's any consolation, I feel my old 1996 Rover 800 2.0lt Turbo Coupe outperformed my GSi . http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39056
