confused 6 speed F40 are they all the same?

    Hi all.
    I have a 04 Vectra energy CDTI 120 with a 6 speed F40 box.
I will miss out the borring lead up to this event but while limping home 60 miles with no clutch I got some nasty noises from the box in the last mile and on draining it found some chunks of metal(do i hear shouts of "you twit")
My local breaker has a F40 still in a SRI CDTI so I can't see the input shaft etc.

Are the 8v and 16v boxes exactly the same? as the clutch kits and dual mass flywheel appear to be different.

    Any pointers?

    Chris

the ratios in the 8V are slightly closer than that of the 16.

The F40 in the 3.0CDTI is slightly wider than the 1.9 16V.

Generally the Diesels have wider ratios than the petrol F40's because of the torque they can deal with tougher gearing.

    Thumbs up

Any idea about the external differences of the box that might prevent it being a straight swap?

I dont think do if you are swapping the F40 box for another there sould be an issue its just the ratios that differ.

I thought that only the 2 litre turbo had the 'close-ratio' box,and all the diesel CDTIs had the 'wide-ratio' box with the same diff ratio ?

    Any info ?

Thats what I said all of the deisels have the wider ratios and all of the petrol albeit 1 have close.

Same ratio from 1-6 only the final drive changes.

The only final drive ratio ratio I have come across is 3.55 to 1 for all the F40 diesel variants. It would seem a bit odd that the 120 and the V6 should have the same ratios though?

Cost effedct?? Easier to change one ration than change a few. There is 3.55:1 and 3.72:1 (Not 100%)
