Default A/C warm after two weeks...

    Hey all,

Had my air con re-gassed by Kwik Fit (they actually did a good job), however after two weeks it went warm . Spoke to Kwik Fit who were good, the guy there said it's obviously got a slow leak that wasn't picked up in their 20mins pressure loss check two weeks earlier, which I understand so "oh well". He told me to go get it fixed and he'll refill for free if I show the receipt, which I thought was good.

However, no way will i take it to the Stealers to be looked at, can anyone advise me how much I should pay for a simple "find the leak test". I can assess if I want the faulty part fixed when I find which part it needs. Also, is there anyway I can find the leak myself? I've never played with air con systems before.

    Cheers
    Si

would be worth a call to kwickfit to find if they put any leak tester in with their regas - if so a uv dye is usually normal and can be found under a uv lamp and yellow goggles !!!

    similar to CSI

if they dont put in any dye then a dye would need to be added and regas and check again in a few days

    hth

Thanks Dez! Just phoned them, no they don't use UV dye, probably why it's only £45 to get done!! OK, so I'm gonna have to get a garage on it, it's 32deg C out there today!!!

the dye is quite cheap and it wont need alot but its injected via the hp or lp connector so tricky to do - seen a tech completely mess it up and the cannister exploded all over him ........

he looked really cool in the nightclub for about the next three weeks

    HAHA

Through the power of Google found a local small garage who'll do the re-gass including dye for £45+vat, and guarantees to find the leak, all in a Saturday morning . They service and repair a/c too, so gonna take it in and see what's leaking! Let you all know!

Along with all my other problems (gearbox, clutch, dmf, master cylinder) mine was in at the Stealers yesterday for the aircon. Had it regassed twice at kwik fit - no leak shown, then the stealers find a leak - fix and regas - only cold air would come out of the drivers vent and a whine behind centre console. Then after a couple of days no cold air at all.

Long and short - yesterday they diagnosed the condenser as faulty - on back order with vauxhall could be 3 - 4 weeks - what's the betting it won't get aboce 12C for the rest of the summer.
