    Question Help cleaning EGR valve

    Hi, i have a 06 Vectra SRI 150 (33k miles)

My car seems to have intermittent problems with low down power, resposiveness etc. One day i pull out a junction it seems OK and another it seems sluggish.

I live in Retford, Notts which is near Worksop - I was wondering if anyone local to me would want a weekend job taking EGR off and cleaning, and thus paying cash? Im convinced its sticking and/or not working correctly

I prefer someone with experience of doing this before, im fed up taking to my local garage as they say nothings wrong and dont check or do what i ask . There is another place but they are expensive

    Cheers
    Chris

Chris, honestly bud, its a DIY job. I was reluctant to do my dad's one over the weekend, but in the end just got to it and was done well within an hour.

Here's my thread of how it looked: http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86097.

Just make sure you get the gaskets before hand and off you go!

The fiat gasket is supposed to help reduce carbon build up , maybe one of those also for a few quid

Sorry to this Paul and Chris, but I read that too after I had fitted my replacement one. It has 2 small holes as opossed to the whopping great big one....I just wanted to know if this has any adverse effects?

My thinking was that there is an obvious reason why Vx have the one with a big hole, so why should I use the small one and will it affect anything, e.g. performance, running, mpg??

Problem is my job is working in IT - i know as much about cars as the backside of the moon

If it is that easy could someone please take a pic of the engine and where the part is - also do u have to unplug any electrics or anything before you start?

I really would prefer to get someone else to do it - gimme a computer anyday

Try this thread Chris: http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...t=cleaning+EGR, there are loads of good images here!

The EGR valve is at the back of the engine on the right hand side! Its actually mounted flat on the back. Take the Ecotec cover off and its there!

You will identify by seeing that it has a black device that is screwed into a aluminium type casting! The black part has one electric plug on it, but pull the yellow clip and it pops off! It also has bolted onto it, with 2 nuts, a clip that holds on of the rubber gromits for the engione cover!

Aint got no piccies here otherwise would post one.

The EGR valve comes away from the engine with 4 x 10mm bolts and away from the pipe below it with 2 x 13mm bolts!

    HTH a little!

On the plastic black side of the EGR valve (the solenoid side) there will be a black/grey plug plugged into the solenoid. On this plug will be a little yellow gromit which you will need to slide either back or forth (cant quite remember), this is bascially like a lock, once this has moce out of the way, you should be able to pull the plug off gently, I think you have to sqeeuze inwards where the yellow slider gromit thing was!

Can you get an image of that area of your engine, can point you in the right direction then! Im at work ATM so cannot get an image!
