Default EGR Valve Cleaned-MAJOR CARBON BUILD-UP. (pic heavy)

So, I finally got round to cleaning the EGR Valve on my dad's SRI CDTI 150.

Complaints were, very sluggish on take off and seems to just last some enthusiasm....once going it wouldnt stop!

Also, sounded very "heavy" to me, so following your lot's advice on here, I decided to clean it out.

Also did the boost sensor, although didnt scrub it too much. Just a light clean and Carb Cleaner sprayed.

Oh, and I didnt need to strip down the solenoid and the little pin was moving and spinning freely!

There was some serious carbon on the Valve and the inlet manifold.

I'll let the images speak for themselves!!

So, once again guy's, you have come up trumps.

All-in-all, took about an hour and changed the gaskets too, and re-setted any lights that had flagged up on the dash before.

RESULT: well my dad said it hasnt got that held back feeling anymore, and I took it for a thrash and it seems quieter and smoother.

Is that the result I should be expecting?
Am I right in thinking the MPG should also show some increase?

If the manifold is that clogged, check the swirl linkage m8.

I had to have mines replaced because of the carbon build up because the swirl linkage had popped off.

IF you look between the fual rail (big brass coloured bar on top of the engine) and the egr valve there will be a linkage down on top of the manifold. This should be connected at 4 points on the manifold if not it has fell off and if the manifold is not in a bad way the £1 fix will save you the massive bill.

If the car is registered on or after 06 you should already have the replacement manifold and will probably not get any issues.. Mines is a 54 plate so i had an old one.

Also m8 when I had my manifold replaced the guy said boot the thing to stop the build up - ie keep it over 2,000rpm.

Yep mate, its a 55-reg Facelift. But when we bought it 2 years ago, it had to have a replacement Boost Sensor, EGR Valve, and Swirl Flap thingymajig.

Oh I do mate, but my dad doesnt. Hence why I have to drive it at least once a week....and even he recognises this fact!! !

Since you have had it replaced then no real need to worry then.
