Default smell after turning AC off

Car still has a newish smell esp. when hot. When I turn the AC on this new car smell gets better , but when I turn the AC off I get a bad smell that takes some time to get rid of

Has had a new pollen filter any ideas. My B vec wasn't like this although I understand you can get a damp smell but mine is a bit toxic smelling.

Switch off your A/C a couple of minutes before you end your journey as this helps. The smell is coming from dead insects and bacteria. Holts do something in their range as well. HTH.

Cheers I do remember holts doing a bacteria cleaner but the smell can last for upto an hour so might give it ago.

On the service information I did see that V/X had pumped something into it not that long ago.

i get this aswell, but its usually a vinegary type of smell, used to have this on my volvo s40 aswell. thought it was just a "feature" of AC.

let me know if you get hold of that holtz stuff and if it works.

    Vinegary thats it

Never had that before on any other AC car I've had.

Where is the fan intake for the spray is it behind the glove box or do you spray it into behind the pollen filter?

i'm curious...what difference would that make? i don't know what the cause is other than build up of muck in the pollen filter so how would it help?

i expect cars to be able to function properly without user input. having to take precautionary measures in order for something to work as it should just doesn't sit right with me. i'm not naive enough to expect this to work forever, but with such sophisticated pieces of engineering i don't think it's too much to ask.

don't get me wrong, i care about the welfare of my car, but to a certain extent.

Smelly AC usually comes from the drain of the AC system being blocked ...
This will cause bacteria in the system, and smell ...

Is this easy enough to do or is this something that vauxhall technicians should undertake only?
