Default Help!!! Petrol in Diesel vectra

today on the way to work stupidly i put BP Ultimat Unldeaded fuel into my vectra c 2.0 dti, i dident realise drove the car about 10miles then it started to act up was in a bad place to pull over so i keeped driveing car strugling more and more, today i have spent loads and loads of money clearing the unleaded out filled it back up with diesel tryed to get it to fire but wont, i took pip that comes from the fuel filter to the engine and filled it with diesel to get it to run through just will not start, if i put a drop of diesel directly passed the maf through the air intake i can get it to fire but very very smokey, have i done some seriouse damage, is the car saveable?

    Thanks

Be careful whatever ya do. The pumps on the DTi's can be fragile. If you have taken a pipe off chances are that the fuel system will need the diesel bled through. Be warned though that the dti's are not self bleeding and you will need to use a bulb pump or similar to bleed diesel through. If you are not sure get a garage to do it

Its never happened to me before but i'm sure when i've spoken about it to others who have (not sure if petrol in a diesel or vice versa) the petrol could damage the seals etc inside the engine so it can be a costly fix. Do the Vec DTi's not have a pump on them. i've never looked on mine but my Fiesta TDCi had a hand pump to bleed diesel through.

50% of a tank of petrol, to about 2% of diesel.

and the tube that goes directly to the engine ive taken the fuel pump and filter out of the eqation. by letting the engine pull the diesel in itself, and still no response.

I did exact same as you m8, .... my old 2DTi at the time, wouldnt start at all, ended up getting towed for about 500 yards to get it to go..... loads of black smoke, but after wee while all was fine..... went on to do another 50K miles after that with no problems.

well hope its ok, we spent a good 2 hours trying to start it got it started a few times but only by putting diesel into the air intake like i said, also ive been putting the diesel directly into the engine through the feed from the fuel filter, it sucks it in had it on jump leads and keeped trying to start with 15 second breaks for about 40 - 1hour and nothing at all
