Default What a flipping carry on!

    Yes, I'm still here!

You may remember I had a slight disagreement with another car back in January well, for some reason the insurers couldn't sort it out between themselves (quite possibly because NFU refused to return any of the calls from my insurers ) and it ended up being passed to their legal team for recovery.

I've had very regular letters from the solicitors, to be fair, keeping me in the loop every step of the way, and I was quite suprised when they served a summons on the other driver to attend court and stump up but a week later they told me the other girl had submitted a defense so we would BOTH have to go to court to argue the toss!

They asked me for dates I would be available to go to court, and photos of the accident scene (which I'm pretty sure is their job), but I couldn't find the time to do it. It would have meant running around, crossing a busy junction and dodging traffic for a couple of hours, then driving across town to get the pics printed, then driving to the post office to send them off.

Of course, all the time this is going on, I have an unresolved claim on my insurance which is as bad as a fault accident and it's now renewal time...

My renewal quote from Chris Knott was £577, which is steep, but I've got some points that are 3 years old so still have to be declared, and this bluddy accident outstanding, so fair enough. I phoned Adrian Flux, who (bearing in mind they specialise in high-risk cars and drivers) said the best they could manage was £950

Then this morning a bombshell dropped...

A letter from the solicitors saying their case was now closed, and a cheque for my excess and losses meaning they've found the other driver at faullt!

And it's only taken a shade under 6 months to sort out... FFS!

The downside is that they a lot of places still increase your premium even if it's a no fault accident. Try doing a quote with and without adding it in to see, but obviously you'd have to take it with it declared otherwise it can deem your insurance to be invalid.

They deem you to be a higher risk because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Like you make a habit of that or can influence it in any way.

I have one that is waiting for resolution from August 2005, where a dozy plank on a scooter hit the back of my Vectra whilst in France. At least all I'm waiting for is the return of my excess as my insurance company deemed it completely not my fault and is chasing for the refund. I guess they're having too many vino fuel long lunches to actually get around to paying up.

Glad you have it sorted. Thats the problem with unresolved claims, any renewal will be based on a reduced NCD until it is sorted.

Gawd almighty Paul - what a faff eh? Glad you got it all sorted though in your favour. TBH, six months isn't too bad actually - some of them drag on for ages.

Have you gone back to CK and AF to get better quotes now that you've had it resolved and 'only' have a non-fault claim on your file?

AF have come down from £950 to £565, which is MUCH better! I'm planning to spend this afternoon on the phone playing them off against each other to see how low they'll go
