Default Vectra VXR Brakes - The Conversion

As some of you know, I bought a brand new set of Vectra VXR 345mm brakes from Courtenay this week. So off to my trusty Vauxhall Dealer Marshall Leicester to have them fitted.

Here's the car at Marshall about to be raised on the lift and a good friend of mine Ady about to start work.

Once the wheel was removed, this showed the existing set up.

Here's the old 285mm disc next to the new VXR 345mm disc.

Due to the size of the new discs, the dust sheild had to be cut back as the larger discs would not fit.

I was going to have the removed all together, but I was advised to just have the lips removed and leave as much sheild as possible. Also the hubs would have to be removed to take out the sheilds and this could result in two new wheel bearings.

    Another shot from upstairs.

Here is the new set up fitted prior to bleeding and finishing. I sprayed the exposed part of the disc black to stop them going rusty, but have since done them silver as they look better.

    Here they are all done.

Then after work today, I removed the wheels and gave them a wash, and painted the discs silver which looks better IMHO.

After this I thought I may as well tidy up the rears so they all match, so the rear callipers were cleaned up and done in VXR blue to match the fronts, and the exposed parts of the rear discs done in silver also.

Very pleased with the end result. It does say not to brake hard for the first 250 miles, so about 180 to go! But initial impressions are very impressive.

You only have to use about 20% of the brakes now and they are about the same as using 60% of the old brakes!

I'll get a picture of the whole car with them on once I have cleaned it within the next couple of days.
