Default So long and thanks for all the fish !

I been thinking long and hard for the past few months about whether to stay an active participant of this great forum (and it is great, I sincerely mean it) - the vast majority of the time at least.

Recently it has been increasingly clear to me that I am getting less and less out of it. I'm not into modifying cars and simply think that my Vectra is purely transport, a view not shared with the majority on here. In fact the only reason why I continued to post was the fact that my experience and knowledge could help out people with issues, concerns etc.

For some sad and fairly pointless reason, I decided a while ago to cease participating after I reached 'Guru' status. It was simply a notional and arbritary cut off point. I met that condition about 7 weeks ago, but things were flowing OK for me at the time, so I continued to post, but at a reduced frequency.

My style is quite direct and to the point. Some people may construe that as rude or arrogant or whatever, but that has never been my intention. I just have a direct approach to things. It's not nasty or personal, it's just the way I am, and isn't exclusive for online interactions - ie I'm not a keyboard warrior online and then meek and mild in the flesh. Also, I don't find asking questions and probing as pushing, intimidating or confrontational - it's just a way of getting to the facts. This is a daily occurance in my job, so I don't feel threatened by it in the slightest, but clearly those people not used to it do feel some sort of pressure at least.

It is clear that some people don't like my approach and also how I say some things. I can handle that, I don't agree with everything I read on here, or like everyone I meet in person. It's just a fact of life.

Unfortunately, when 'speaking' online the other forms of communication cannot be made, ie non verbal, which makes it probably more difficult to get the whole message across. Things can, and do, get misunderstood or misconstrued, which is unfortunate.

As admin has now revamped the site and everything seems to be going up and up for them and the forum, I will take this change in direction to separate myself from the forum, and this will probably be my last post. I may decide to browse occasionally, but won't post.

I like to think that my contribution to the forum has been generally positive, helpful and technically challenging of views and points that weren't credible. To me it's important to get people thinking that not everything is gold, and some claims require questioning, in my most humble opinion 'ignorance being bliss' basically means that you are prone to being ripped off.
I hope that I have helped people understand more, and I also hope that I have helped people out with specific problems or issues through my technical and non technical knowledge.

OK, I've had my fair share of 'discussions' and disagreements with people, but that is forum life I suppose. When you get different personalities together it is inevitable, and doesn't always have a negative final outcome.

I have enjoyed the last 4 years, but now feel it is best to part ways.

I sincerely wish everyone, their families, and the forum the best for the future. Our paths may cross again, who knows, never say never.

    Ste

    Ste,

dont go - we still need all the charaters on here -

its what make the world go around - differences in views and opinions is what life is all about
stick around and see the changes settle in and if you STILL feel the same way in a couple of months - then so beit

Ste you have been here a long time and have always imo put up useful information. Its a shame you feel this way but I completly understand. It seems as prices fall some of the new owners are what they were feared to be a few years ago

    Take care STE
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
