    Engine : Z19DTH

    Year : Nosey

Default Vectras are still getting the same map...

I spoke to VXR again today and they tell me they are still using the same map as I got because they are having trouble with the new one.

I find it hard to understand why there would be a difference of 30lbft on two engines made to the same spec with the same program...

Even with tolerances and variations in fuel, temp, e.c.t, 30lbft is a big difference and I would really like to know why (espechially as I know she can produce more using a box).

They use the same base map, but this is altered to the different versions of Vauxhall's software. VXR extract the cars programme from the ECU, modifiy it and put it back.

Now if the programme extracted is slightly different, the base map address's have to be changed to suit the programme, this is not however to make one map produce more bhp/torque than another. It is to map the map alterations compatible to each car.

Mine was a version they had not seen before and sorted it the same day and I got 201bhp and 328lb/ft on the RR a day later.

What you have to understand is that when Vauxhall build these engines, they have to ensure they all meet the 150PS and 236lb/ft as standard.

Vauxhall/Opel do not have to comply to what a tuner 'may' get later. It is the same with Petrol car mapping, you could put the same basic map into two Astra VXR's and get varying results.

Even the 1.9 CDTi engines are different now, my old one was a Y19DTH, my new one is a Z19DTH, it should not make that much difference but there are changes that will effect things.

I personally think your crazy using a box on a mapped car, your just asking for trouble.

Have you also thought that the reason your not getting the figures is that your clutch is slipping on the rollers? I would get the clutch done, calm down the driving style and you may be pleasently surprised.

From the facts I have seen you post on the forums:

You got remapped at Banbury with the new map. You then went from there and rolling roaded it. You didn't allow the ECU to adjust itself. As such the car wasn't ready.

I think that using a box on your car is pointless. You might be able to get more, but what are you doing to the setup of the car? You are bunging more fuel into a modified ECU map. And it is smoking above 3500rpm when you floor it? This is as you state in some of your other threads.

The thing is you don't seem happy with your remap. Fine. Get yourself back to VXR and ask for your money back and forget about it. Use your box if you are that happy with it.

(espechially as I know she can produce more using a box).
We all know the Z19DTH engine capable of producing 212bhp anyway, you are not the first person to 'revolutionise' the 1.9 CDTi engine. It was done over a year ago on the SAME engine block except with twin turbos. The engine will take it if setup correctly and no doubt in my mind, more. You running a remap and a box does not class as setup correctly.

If I REALLY wanted to with a good cold air feed, a boost controller, a tuning box and a bit of luck I could get 230bhp out of one of these engines. Though most likely popping the intercooler end tanks. Being an idiot I am sure I could get over 250bhp if I threw a half arsed NOS kit in there too.

My point is..... your car isn't setup correctly and I don't think that is just down to the map. I think there are other issues here.

I think you are personally being a bit silly there Caterman...............

............ should easily get 110mpg @ 150mph if you work it out as follows:

    150mpg * 0.7(8.32)/234=(x)

Then multiply this via the square route of bulls*it which is 0.229873

Subtract this from the amount of jam left in your tank. It SHOULD be 10% here guys. If not you obviously have a problem with your car.

Measure the amount of slack in the accelerator pedal and then times by 2.456323x(b)=2x4(*345).

This should leave you with a figure of 104MPG. You then add the amount of donuts you have left in your car to this figure (taking in on average you buy a bakers dozen so after a quick scoff you should have 6 left).

    Thus 110mpg. Simple really!
