Default Fitted a Tuning Box on a V6 184 CDTi???

Hi - has anybody actually managed to fit a tuning box to the 184ps V6 CDTi? Seems you have to "patch in" to a plug on the end of the common rail. I've just had a go an it looks impossible without rearranging the engine... I can see the plug to remove and even get my hand on it but can't reverse it off the socket because it's blocked in by components. There's just no room to maneouvre it off.

    Any ideas guys?

On your engine I would not even consider it as the fuel pump may well die as a result leaving you a bill for around £2-£3K!

Getting the plug off is easy, remove the engine cover and its on the left hand side near the oil filler.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Yes but mainly on the facelift 184ps. The earlier engine seems a lot more tollerant.

I had problems with a box on mine (pre-facelift).Spanner light coming on when overtaking and going into limp mode is just plain dangerous.Happened too many times with the box on to be a coincidence, and all was then OK with the box off.

Also you could have problems with DMF,clutch, gearbox etc,and none of those items are cheap on this car!

The other thing that I found detrimental to the cars performance with the box on was the gearing. You basically have the same gearing as the '120' model!

Had a box on my V6 for 18 months, not had a limp mode or anything. Mine is a prefacelift, when I take it off for the MOT it feels like a slug.

Thanks fellas. It's a Spider tuning box which is meant to be a "good one." I did do a bit of research before I bought it and a lot of people around the net seemed to be saying good things about it so I took the plunge. Didn't realise my particular Vauxhall V6 was so close to limits that a little increase in common rail pressure could kill it...

Mines an '07 auto box, don't know if that operates at near torque limits in the 184ps.

The engine on the autos is reduced torque iirc anyway. Just bear in mind the costs involved if you choose to use the box An informed decision is always a good idea. I know maverick remapped his 184 cdti and it died on the way home, its why a lot of remap companies do not do a map for the 3.0v6 diesel!
