Apply a coat using a foam applicator pad multiple thin even coats are much better than thick layers, so apply it all over the car thinly leave for 20 minutes or so and buff the wax with a microfibre cloth. Leave the car for 24 hours if you can in a garrage then apply a 2nd coat useing the same method and buff it off.

Putting it on too thick makes it difficult to buff off, takes longer to cure and wastes the wax as only the wax touching the panel is left behind when you buff it off. You will also use more microfibre cloths buffing thick wax layers.

also try a damp applicator... with a little spruce of last touch or quick detailer... helps to spread the wax evenly...and so doesnt end up too thick...
leave the wax to haze .. to test just give it a quick wipe with your finger.. if it comes off then the wax is ready to come off..

Which Colly are you using? I found the 915 a pleasure to use; easy on & easy off with great results. I use the same method as dwabo.
