help with bonnet catch

car just came up on the lil screen thing that the water needs topping up....pulled the bonnet catch down in my footwell and...............nothin!! help can`t get the bonnet up

Get someone to pull the bonnet release lever out all the way (as far as it will go without snapping it) while you stick your fingers under the bonnet and try to lift it up.

Sounds like the bonnet release needs adjusting - check it out before you drop the bonnet again (when you can open it in the first place that is).

Just turn the car upside down and work from the bottom?

My method did get my bonnet to open when the mechanism was badly adjusted for some reason (I don't think it had been set up properly from new).

Your idea with pliers may work if the cable has slipped through the clamp under the bonnet and the lever won't pull it out far enough to release the bonnet. If you pull with pliers and the cable just keeps coming then it must have snapped.

I did get into a Nova many years ago using a screwdriver pushed through the grille when this happened, but I guess the mechanism will be a lot more closed in on the Vectra to stop thieves doing this.
