I had a similiar issue. The light came on, but the steering was ok. I went to the dealer and they said the power steering motor/pump was defect...however the steering worked just fine...also a couple of days later the light went off and never came on again.

As I live in Denmark a replacement pump/motor would cost 1000£ + VAT + work...!
So i'm probably going to go to Germany if I ever want to replace it..

Sorry mate just seen this question.

I wasn't moving initially but pulled away like a k**b not noticing the large warning sign lit up after I started the car.

Then thought f*** me the steerings knackered.

Luckily I managed to stop without incident.

You are supposed to be able to steer without assistance but it catches you by surprise & you can't, believe me.

    Just happened to me
Luckily I was in a car park cos the steering is seriously heavy.
Turned car off then back on again and everything was fine.
I have just this minute come off the phone from vauxhall and they said

" Its a protection thing if the battery is low on voltage for any reason it may not turn on the power steering because it can do damage to something or other .When you start the car back up battery had charged a bit so everything fine "

Thats what they reckon anyway I have less than a month of warranty left so a close eye will be kept on it .
