Default 2.0 Turbo Sri Vec C

Im going to look at one of these tonight (53 plate) and despite searching for some time havent been able to get answers to all of the questions I have...

What are they like on petrol? Reasonable? (im not expecting diesel figures by the way)

They seem pretty rare? Is there an obvious reason for that?

Anything in particular to look out for?

    Reliable?

Ive seen you can chip these as well and it looks worthwhile so its becoming a real alternative to the GSi's I was previously looking at.

Thanks for any help you can give

    Andy

bout 28-32mpg with sensible driving..can take a plunge if you have a heavy right foot... 36-40mpg on motorway journeys...
if you want a remap.. bsr (around £550) for the remap seems to be the market leader!..
pretty solid engine.. some have had issues with the alternator pulley... basically sounds like a squeeking belt but its the pulley.. around £200 to fix.. other than that a pretty much solid engine!

engine rock-solid, only problem I am aware of are the V tensioners (as mentioned), also agree with the mpg (30 for me, all town) although if you look back on past threads some on here are in scooby/ST territory! not sure how rare they are...BSR/Angel/Abbots/EDS/Superchips & more all offer tuning for various prices.. (have a look in the tuning section)

Gorgeous engine. I have a heavy right foot, and have averaged 23mpg around town, and about 34mpg on the motorway, consistently since new. At 65k there hasn't been one single problem with the engine. As previously said, he V tensioner makes a twittering noise when cold. I believe there is a modified pulley, but I was too slow off the mark to claim it under warranty, and don't fancy paying a few hundred quid to sort it out. It doesn't cause any problems, you can't even here it in the car with the window shut, and it's only for 5 minutes; until warm.

The engine is a gem. I second everything already said on here. the 2.0T itself is not rare, it isn't a big seller cos it's a petrol and a bit too heavy on the juice for most people but fuel economy is reasonable given what it is capable of. The Edition100 variant of which only 500 were made can be more difficult to find.

like everbody has said, it's an awsome engine. i've had my car nearly 3 years and i've never had a problem apart from the usual thing, SPRINGS ,but engine wise, nothing. but the thing that sold me the car is the insurance group, 12/13. There's not that many cars with the same performance in the same insurance group, especially 2.0 turbos.
Fuel wise, i don't think it's too bad considering what it is. I average about 32 mpg combined, but i've got the bsr stage1 remap so i reckon that's pretty good going.
I don't think the cars are that rare, i just don't think anybody's willing to sell their cars because of that engine
