confused Fault code reader query - 2002 2.2 DTi

I have been trying for some time to find a fault code reader that will work with my 2.2 DTi. After searching the forums, I have found plenty that won't work but I can't seem to find one that will.

I think the main problem is that Vectra C diesels prior to 2004 are not EOBD compliant. A lot of fault code readers specifically state that they won't work with diesels prior to 2004 (or petrols prior to 2001). I found this out myself when I tried one of the RAC models from Argos - it worked fine with a 2002 GSi and a 2008 CDTi but didn't want to talk to my 2002 DTi.

So my question is does anyone know of a fault code reader that definitely works with a pre-2004 2.2 DTi? The only options I have found so far are the 2 below, but I would like so see what else is available - and preferably cheaper - before I buy one.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for taking a look.

I know this method works on the 3.2 V6 petrol (because I've tried it) and I think it works on the 1.8 petrol as well (as per this post). It definitely doesn't work on my 2.2 DTi (because I've tried it). There are a lot of comments on this post about types of engine that it doesn't work on (looks like most of them ).

I think it's down to which engine management computer you have - I think it needs to be Bosch, and then maybe only certain types of Bosch...

    Hello,
James, I have 2004 vectra 2.2dti and I am looking for a code reader too. So far I tried U480 and obd2 tech2 USB diagnostic tool which works with laptop and they did not work.
If someone has dti and found the right code reader, please let us know.

I bought a U480 which will not connect to my dti. I use Vauxcom & an ebay elm interface. Vauxcom cost about £30 iirc. It only reads codes, it doesn't do anything else.

Oops! I meant to say I use Vauxcheck, discussing Vauxcom is forbidden.

AFAIK the only genuine and properly-supported option you'll get below the cost of professional-level kit is Gendan's Vauxcheck which can read and rest fault codes on all systems except airbag. It's software and USB ELM-327 interface so you'll need a laptop to run it on. There is cheaper knock-off software and interfaces on eBay, but it's risky...
