    Default Vec-B Brakes Droning Question

    Morning Chap's,

This is the second time I have noticed this now when driving at speed on the motorway.

Basically, as im driving at 70+, say 80'ish and then press on the brakes any harder than a tap for any period longer than a split second, I get a very horrid droning sound.

I can pinpoint if its from the front or back but you can hear it and almost feel it from the entire car.

The pads all round are good and so are the discs.

Can anyone help me? Dont really want to start the trial and error process.

My car is a 51-reg Vectra B SRI DTI 130.

    Thanks.

    Bye bye Vec B

No mate, they seem fine. No lip on them either. It only happens when doing motorway speed, they are OK around town. It is a very heavy drone when doing 70 and you press them!

have you looked at the inner surfaces of the discs?? just make sure they are not "scabbed" or corroded the inner pad seems less effective than the outer one so this normally causes a build up of surface corrosion

yep - our local garage skim discs with a procut lathe - they do it with the discs in situ -
we have losts of complaints of noises as most manufacturers now chamfer the pads to increase surface pressure as no asbestos to lubricate they subsequently end up with inner surface corrosion and lipping on the inner edge - i feel this would be the cause of your noises
