Default Bloomin Valve Caps are Stuck !!!!

I put valve caps on a few months ago, silver richbrook style, went to check the tyre pressures at the weekend and they are solid. I have tried gripping the valve with pliers / selfgrips and spanner on the cap but no go, the rubber around the valve split a bit so I gave up. I gave them a good douse in WD40 an hour before I tried.

Any suggestions on getting them off so I can check my pressures (I dont have a problem with pressure, just annoying me that I can`t get them off.

Went to a tyre place and they said that the tyres would have to come off, new valves and balance, £70.00, ferk that ...

I don`t want to risk damaging my alloys in the process either, I thought maybe cut them with something, but what .

I had this very same problem Tommy. I tried everything to get the bu66ers off. In the end I went to my local tyre fitters and had them refit the tyres and valves.

They said to me that they are Oxidised on and that they are always doing this job.

    I've fitted standard caps since.

I know this doesn't help your problem Tommy, but for anyone fitting metal caps, would a bit of Copaslip be a good idea to help stop them seizing?

Kick the man whilst he is down nice one D!

Tommy - Had this problem, need some industrial engine degreaser. I don't mean the halfords stuff, I mean the decent stuff from the valeters etc.

Sometimes that budges them just enough.

    Otherwise new valves I think

Cheers guys, not looking good then, and yep copper grease would be the job, I guess there still there because the theiving little moped drivers couldn`t get them off, I thought they were lasting a while.

By degreaser do you mean a Gunk kind of thing ??

Gunk isn't strong enough. I mean the stuff they use when engines are apart to dissolve all the gunk off the engine blocks. Any engine shop will have some or Machine Mart sells it. Parts Washer. You have to dilute it. Make sure you don't get any on your wheels and put it on neat.

Try two pairs of pliars, one to grip the valve and one to grip the caps.

Eh!? - erm, nothing of the sort. I had no 'words of wisdom', no ideas that I knew would work (without guessing) in terms of removing the caps - it was more of a 'while we're on the subject' if Tommy got his caps off and was still thinking of putting on metal ones again (unlikely I know!) or for anyone who was thinking of fitting them, or may even have them on now and may have thought that it might be worth doing! - as subsequently confirmed by gil16e.

I'm sure Tommy knows me well enough by now that he'd have read it for exactly what it was!
