    Default cross threaded glowplug

    has any1 ever had to retap a glow plug without taking the head off if so could you please tell me the best way so no swarf drops in to the engine cheers

    Small amount of grease/copper slip on the thread tap will catch the swarf bud!!!

    cheers bud u dont no how to get a snapped glow plug out do you ? was going to either use a bolt extractor or weld a nut on

    like the welded bolt idea but easier, and you should be able to get one from a car spares place or try machine mart....

    an easyout( stud extractor) is a bit like a tap. But it doesn,t have teeth as such. But a left hand spiral. So when you put it in a pre-drilled hole and turn it, as you screw it in, it grips the "glowplug" and if it is not too tight it will unscrew it.

    From my experience , take it to an engineering company , the material the glowplugs are made from is monkey metal.
    I had one snap in my old dti , and it's still there yet.
    Easy outs are a good idea in principal , but in practice you might have problems as the plug just breaks up , then it's cylinder head off time.
    My mate has his own garage , and even he struggles with glowplugs that have snapped.
    Best advice is buy the most expensive glowplugs you can , as the cheap budget ones really are pants.
