    Default Betsy no!!!!!!!!!!!

    2002 Y20DTH
Couple weeks ago I was messing around with my EGR valve. Put everything back after I'd finished.

Driving home to Devon from Birmingham area on Monday evening, clear light evening and not much traffic on the M5 so I accelerated up to.... well let's just say the speed limit, and turned cruise control on.

Shortly in to journey engine temp started to rise. Hmmm. So I pulled in to lane one and backed off speed with the intention to check engine over at next junction. Keeping eye on engine temp it kept rising, and I decided something drastic was wrong so stopped on hard shoulder.

Opened bonnet and discovered coolant hose to EGR valve had popped off, lost all coolant. ******. Turned ignition on to confirm suspicions and temp continued rising (not much you can do once the engine is dry it'll continue to cook itself for a few minutes after stopping.

Temp in to the red, by the time it refilled the coolant the engine was lumpy and took long time to start, coolant still leaking from somewhere. Past experience would suggest the head is badly warped damn it.

Can't afford to get the old goat repaired, think I might attempt to repair it myself.

    Questions

1)Anyone know how to do this?
2)Edited by Admin due to reference to Vx software - see rules
3)Is information about head gaskets or engine dismantling on TIS2000?
4)Does anyone was to buy a Vectra C 2002 DTi with engine in bits in about 2 weeks time?

    Cheers

And something to note if you ever disturb any of those rubbish sprung clips that secure coolant hoses around the engine bay, replace them with nice new jubilee clips!!!!! You can buy packs on eBay for a couple quid - everyone go buy some now so this doesn't happen to you!!

Yo I realise I should start a new thread but I thought I'd reply to this one. I bought a reconditioned cylinder head off eBay and fitted it. Its been quite a learning curve finding out how to do this, buying tools required etc.

Car is all back together now but it wont start. A mechanic mate says he's certain the reason it wont start is because the dry diesel pump can't draw diesel up from the tank. Haynes Manual advises using a VX specific vacuum pump to draw fuel up and bleed system.

Anyone know another way of doing this on a Y20DTH engine without having to buy a VX pump? Are there cheaper vacuum pumps on the market that'll do the job?

    Cheers

Does anyone think one of these might work?

To test my theory I know Citroen / Peugeot used to fit these pumps to their ZX's, 206's etc etc I'm going to pop to the local breakers yard and get one. Put it in fuel line of Vectra and see what happens. I'll report back later with the results
