    Default Cat d help..

i am in the process of purchasing a cat d vectra. i'm having an inspection carried out by an engineer.

does anyone know of insure companies that do not hesitate in insureing cat d's

my insurance said they would but only because i'm an existing customer.

i dont understand why insurances companies get so funny about cat d's when they are only normally cosmetic damage..

..anyways please can people suggest insurance companies that will insure cat d's. ta

I currently have a cat c punto insured fully comp with no problems, An accident damaged car is logged on its log book so you do not need to declare it as being written off. Just insure it as you would any other car

Why are you telling them its a cat D when getting quotes? fairly irrelivent if you ask me,a car could be classed as a cat D for something as simple as having the interior stolen and the insurance company choose to write it off on grounds of cost of replacement.Cat D cars are also very likely to have suffered very little damage, certainly not structural anyway.

Dont bother declaring it mate, it just gives them the excuse they are looking for to rip you off. Im almost sure you dont have to mention it when getting quotes....

To be honest i reckon decent cat D salvage costs are close to straight equivelent undamaged car prices at the minute.....cat C all the way for me, love a bargain!

well i just got a cat d 2006 exclusiv 25000 miles fully repaired with sri front bumper lights etc. for £3900. its emmaculate - book price is between £4525 - 4730.

but surely you need to declare it as a cat d for legal reasons. if you dont declare it and have an accident then surely they will and try and say the insurance is void.

You dont have to declare its a cat d, ive drove cat c and d cars for years now, never had a problem insureing them, last year i had a claim on a cat d car, i gave them the receipt from when i bought it, plus repair costs, i got paid out more than the car stood me at, i got full value.....

It just so happens I bought a Cat d car last year. I didnt tell the insurance company as I was under the impression it was only cat c's that have to be declared. 2 months ago I went into the back of someone, writing off my car. The insurance company refused to pay out, under the terms and conditions small print (which I failed to read, who does?) it says they will not insure previously written off vehicles. I got my fingers burnt and a lesson learnt, always read the terms and conditions. So I was majorly out of pocket.

I have Cat-D's pretty much all my driving life and have never declared them. Friends of mine's have had Cat-D's and have had claims against them and no problems at all.

If you want to be safe, tell them, but I dont really feel the need to....unless of course its the same company that neilshaw (above) is insured with.
