    Default Spongey brakes?

    Anyone else had this problem?

My brakes were fine the other day and when I was driving to Darlo, they seemed to stop working as such. Was coming up to a roundabout and had to slam on for them to work properly. Even then, it seemed like they were slipping when the ABS comes on.

Was going to book it in, but now it seems to have gone ok?

I noticed the other week too when I press the brake in, it sounds like some air is being released. I asked my dad if his was the same and he said it was.

His is the 07 1.8 facelift model and mine's a 57 1.9CDTi facelift model too.

Sounds like they may need bleeding/fluid replaced. If you have the engine off and pump the pedal a few times, does the pedal then go firm and not drop down at all?

I think so mate, yeah. I'll have to double check the next time I'm in the car.

Is the air noise common too? I never noticed it before, until the other day/week, so wasn't sure.

Not sure if the air noise is something specific to diesels? - certainly doesn't do it on a petrol.

Yep, that's perfectly normal - pedal will drop with the engine running if force kept applied to it, but shouldn't with engine off.

Yeah, it's when the engine's on that I can hear the air noise on the brake. Only noticed it when I had the music off and coming to some traffic lights to stop.

I think mine's the same when the engine's off.

Even if the pedal doesn't drop when the engine's off, you reckon it'll be the brakes needing bleeding/fluid replacing?

With brakes tho mate, if your not sure always get it checked out by a mechanic. theres no second chance with brakes
