CDTI no faster than 20mph ??

Guys, tonight the power went from my 54 plate 1.9 cdti when I was driving around town. Sounded like it was running on two cylinders and wouldnt rev or go over 20 mph. Car wouldnt go over 20mph and the power was draining and the car was slowing regardless of accelerator position. No warning lights until I stopped and turned the engine off. When I restarted the engine management light (car and spanner) light was on but went out when it restarted. Didnt fix it but when I turned off the air con and the recycling button and then restarted the car - everything was fine.


Any ideas?

Electrical problem? maybe due to the drain of the a/c compressor? or maybe its siezed putting strain on the engine? Does it only do it when you put the a/c on.

It has only done it once and the more I scan the forum, the more I am thinking it is the 3rd injector issue.

For £12 I will carry out the field fix and check to see what fault is stored.

A/c works ok so dont think anything is siezed.

mmm just done it again. Driving along no problem then the power drops and I cant get the lumpy engine over 20 mph. I stopped the car and restarted the engine. Everything was fine after that but there was a strong smell of burnt fuel. No spanner light this time.

Any advance?

this is a real problem with these, 1st check ALL vacuum pipes and turbo/intercooler pipes they are prone to splitting if not clean out thoroughly the egr (see the how to's on egr) if that is gunged up you should remove the inlet manifold as that too will want cleaning if that doesn't cure it you will have to have the codes read, hope this helps.

were u low on diesel coz when mine gets to 16 miles on the range it wont acel ov 2omph

After I refuel a nearly empty tank (54l+) the next day after 100mi or so it will start to run like crap...

Mine's a CDTi V6

Will check the hoses ptrehearn152 but other than cutting out the two times - its runs sweet as a nut.
