Rear irmy spoiler(advice needed)

Hi all, I got myself a irmy spoiler on fleabay today, already painted black for £112 plus £17 posted. I cant wait, 3 days and it should be here
I will fit it myself, drilling a few holes should not be hard as long as i mark them out carefully. I would like to know once i have drilled the holes should i paint or treat the holes thust preventing any rust from setting in down the line????????
Even at my age i cant wait for the postman

Make a template up, actually fit it to the spoiler and if you are happy put temp on body and make like a dentist

I'd just put a drop of paint from a touch up brush around the holes to cover and bare metal.. it wont' do any harm.. and put a thin bead of silicone sealer around the 'feet' of the spolier to stop water getting under them..

TIP - get yourself some masking tape too and put loads around where you are going to drill. Then if your drill slips you might not mark the paintwork.

Thats given me an easier way to fit idea now, I assume the spoiler has 2-4 threaded legs? why not put thick blobs of kids poster paint on the ends of them and try to pretty well offer it up 1st time, then remove it and you should be left with the markers on the boot to drill, and you can get rid of the excess paint easily afterwards.

And as GSi says, seal it all up.

Here is a good tip mate and indeed how I lined my spoiler up for drilling.

Put a 3mm thick layer of blu-tac on the boot lid in the area that the holes are to be drilled. Offer the spoiler up to the boot and press hard. The blu-tac will then have indentations of where you are to drill. Use a sharp nail and press through the centre of the mark in the blu-tac onto the boot lid and make a small scratch. Remove the blu-tac and you will be left with an exact marker for the drilling process to begin. Use a new/sharp drill bit and start with a small pilot hole.

You will need to remove the two stoppers from the inside of the boot lid also as the lid is double skinned, that way you can get to the holes and attach the nuts to the bolts.

The small pilot hole is a good tip, also when drilling metal especially with a shiny coating that is liable to slip, it's a good idea to use a centre punch which will create a dip for the drill bit to settle in and avoid slipping. Putting masking tape over the area will also help to stop the paint chipping/cracking.

As been said really, i painted the bare metal when i done mine & plenty of masking tape, smaller pilot holes first too
