Default Thinking of a GSI can you help please

    Hi

I have just joined the forums cause I am thinking of getting a 3.2 GSi to replace my current Toledo V5. I have a few queries which I would be grateful of some help with:

    1. Does the GSI come with Xenons as Standard?

    2. Will I manage to get 30mpg on a long motorway run at 80 - 85 mph. What kind of range can I expect to get out of a tank?

    3. How is the cruise control activated? Is it via the steering wheel controls or stalks?

    4. Has anybody got some performance figs. Iit looks fast at 0-60mph in 7 secs and 150mph tops but I would be interested in any in gear figs, 30-70, 0 - 100mph etc. Will it be much quicker than my current car?

    5. What is the ride like? I want a comfortable long distance cruiser

    6. Is it easy to hook up an MP3 player to the Standard head unit?

    7. Did the spec change at any time during its production run. I would be thinking of getting a late 2004 car if possible.

    8. What options were available and are there any I should look to get?

I am sorry for so many questions but I hope you can help me out. If you have any other views on the car I would be interested.

    Cheers

    Hi toledov5..

    answers..

1, xenon's.. did you mean AFL?? lights are great btw..
2, You might get 30 if you're good.. range..its a 60 litre tank.. you do the math..
3,cruise control is on the stalks..
4,having never driven a toledo i can't say if it is quicker.. I don't know if anyone has published the figures you seek but it's no slouch..
5,Ride is very smooth.. not at all choppy
6,we hook our ipod up via a tape adaptor. reproduction is good..
7,Spec was all over the place.. Big Phil's late 2003 car has parking sensor's.. my early 2004 car hasn't.. later car's were very well specc'd..split climate etc..
8,options that were avaliable?? many from full leather upgrade to sat nav..wheels etc.. As to what you want..every GSi that i looked at was spec'd and optioned differently..I didn't want full leather..but did want the split climate.. you prob won't find the perfect car with all that you want, be prepared to comprimise..

I haven't regretted my GSi..coming from a V6 veccy b this car is a massive improvement.. just don't be too concerned about the round town MPG..If you have any worries about MPG a GSi isn't for you..

    1. The earlier models did but not the later ones, certainly not on my 05 model.

    2. Maybe but doubtful, mine's averaged 25mpg over 17K 85% motorway driving (75 -80mph)

    3. Buttons on the end of the indicator stalk

    4. Never timed it, though will do 30 - 70 happily in 2nd gear.

    5. Firm though I'm sitting on 19s

    6. No idea

    7. Yep, lots of goodies disappeared on the later models (not just the Xenons)

    8. The usual ones were available, upgraded stereo, sat nav, leather etc.

Great fun to drive, plenty of power and great handling (ESP+).

    Hi,
    1. Xenons were def. standard on a 53 plate car, i have them on mine and love them, i have seen them on an 04 plate car but they may have been an added extra, like mentioned above if your lucky enough you may get one with AFL (Lights turn with the wheels incase you didn't know)

    2. I usually get 250 miles to a tank, not good i know but thats mainly all town driving.

    8. Look out for AFL & Parking sensors, also on earlier models, earlier than mine anyway the dual climate control incorporated an air quality sensor, which turned the ventilation to recirculate if it detected poor air quality outside.

Heres a link to the .pdf documents for the features of each production run

mine has xenons but im not sure if they come as standard

again if your carefull you could squeeze 30 out but if you have 19's on then i'd kiss goodbye to the 30 mpg

    stalk

0-60 7.0 - 7.2 depending on which mag you read

    155 mph limited

    good 1/4 mile would be 15.3 15.4

208 bhp .. although mines standard apart from filter 218.9 you could re-map for 240 ish

the ride is a comfortable ride but will get tough with the 19 '' option .... even though its still nice

standard stereo is not compatable with the mp3 player
spec changed late 54 plate onwards

IMHO its the best engine to have although not the most economical to run .... so if economy is a factor then i would get a smaller engine or consider switching to the dark side ( diesel)matey .... but if you can live with 220 - 350 mile to the tank ( 25 - 30 ish mpg ) and love a good noise then its the car for you !!!!

Hi M8, I love my GSI, i agree with most comments from above. Mine is a 52 plate and is quite high spec. I met up with a 05 GSI and half of the extras were missing,i couldnt beleive it, no xenons, no warning door open lights(red ones on each door), no coin box, no headlamp wash, no colour screen sat nav, that is a extra i think, no anti dazzle tint rear view mirror, i think thats all. Some of this stuff was a GSI standard fitment but as times gone on they seem to have stripped out some of the extras.

I have owned my car for nearly 3 years and really do enjoy driving it, 28 mpg average mpg and you will get over 30mpg on a motorway as long as you do not go over 80mph, anything over and you will know it.

You will love every bit of it, its a must have one

Consider a 3.0 CDTi mate in SRi spec

    1.3-1.5 seconds slower.

    17 urban becomes 27mpg

    26 mixed becomes 35-40mpg

Thanks for all the replies and for the warm welcome. The GSI really does appeal at the moment. I only do around 7-8k miles a year so feel I shouldn't need to go for a diesel. I was hoping the gsi will drop in price as petrol goes up and I can get one for a good price.

I have thought about the new 150 diesels and I may have a go in one to see whtat they are like. They seem to be pretty good value on the Vauxhall website at around £12k for one less thn 12 months old.

I think I need to have a go in a gsi and see what I think.
