    Default Alternator replaced

Had the common problem with the Alterantor needing replacing on my Signum at the weekend. The man at the garage also replaced the belt (only cos the old one snapped when I started the engine), anyway he said "really you should change the battery as the batterycan cause the alternator to break!" is this true?

I've had problems in the past with alternators failing and then the battery stops working and visa versa. Have you got break down cover? If so just wait till the battery fails and they'll come and replace it for you

Funny thing, I've just had this happen to my Skoda, I got a recon alternator which lasted 6 hours, they replaced it with another and I got a new battery at the same time as Skoda say to replace it after 4 years anyway, been all good since, but I'm sure the battery took out both the original and replacement units, even though the green thing says the battery is holding a charge and still started the car ok.

Stands to reason that a demanding battery will work the alternator harder and wear it out faster.

take no notice!! dont replace the battery until it les you down. it maybe run down because the alternator has failed but a recharge will usuall surfice.
