    Default Cambelt.......

When is it recommended to get your cambelt changed?
I have a 54 plate 1.9 CDTi SRi [150] Estate with 33800 miles on the clock. Its going in for a service this week at a local non vx garage. I don't do much mileage a year as you can see.
    Any advise please....
    Michael

Vauxhall say 100,000 miles or 6-8 years I believe. But nobody leaves it that long. I'm changing mine at 80,000 as I'm not really up for taking any chances

Cambelt is 150.000km or 90.000miles or 10 years for the CDTi's. At least that's what my handbook says

Based on it being a performance engine, i wont be paying attention to their intervals.

Ill be doing it at 80,000

Isn't worth the heartache if it goes pear-shaped

Does the age of the car have any bearing on when you get the cambelt changed?
The mileage I do it will be a long long time till I reach 80k on the clock. The car is coming up 5 years old now.

Yes, that is why they say at "x" miles OR "x" years - whichever comes sooner.

Rubber deteriorates and perishes with age.

Id take it to 6 yrs old max before changing the belt,

So id manage for now, but in your case do, 6 yrs, or between 45-50k whichever comes first.

(Guessing the 6th year will come first)
