    Default Thanks capriman..

Mrs Gsi and i took her car to Big Phils TOP rother valley meet today.. as those of you who went will know, it was a little bit damp coming back down the M1.. anyway, in terrible spray with very poor visibility the wipers failed..mechanicaly..

limped to Tibshelf services and lifted the bonnet.. there, under the spray sheild was the remains of the wiper linkage.. the ball joints had dropped off and wouldn't stay attached.. Then i remembered Capriman's post on Andrewsri's thread..

    http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=8318

So, one plastic bag later, working wipers, until i get it to the dealers tommorrow...

So a big thanks to him for the advice on the dodge..

What exactly is this 'dodge'?, can't see it actually described there.

I'm guessing it's take the bag and put it around the ball joints and push back in - the extra thickness being enough to hold it and let the wipers move?

Yes Duncan, I read the thread the other day & commented on what a great piece of advice it was.

    Top marks to Capriman.

As Mark says, thank you Capriman.

I was driving and got a bit fed up with Mark trying to sit on my lap as he could not see out of the window.

He's a proper bloke. Just keep chasing the linkage though!! I should still really be in a hire car but for an e-mail in the right place!

Mark has been on to the stealers today and we have a linkage being delivered to the door tomorrow.

If I were you, I would have words with your stealers.

    well, got my parcel today..

Had a hell of a fight with local dealers to get the car seen to..So i ended up contacting the supplying dealers in abingdon oxfordshire.. Network Q asked them to supply me a F.O.C linkage assembly for me to fit..

I was worried about the network Q warranty ( for what it's worth) but the advisor said that as we are registered at vx to repair cars then they will honour the warranty on anything we do.. .. I can't beleive they're so helpful..prob didn't want to hire me a car!!

When the linkage was un-boxed it is dead easy to see the difference in the linkage joints..the new one's are a white moulding and the rod's are pressed flat metal, rather than the alloy tubes.. VX said that so many fail they ensure that all the dealers try to keep the part in stock.. He said that it is a widespread fault on the earlier cars, but he wouldn't say when they bought in the mod..

It's not really within the scope of a how-to covering swapping the linkage.. if anyone's fails and they're out of warranty, then drop me a line and i'll take you through changing it..if you're careful it's a job you can do in under the book time..cause i did!!
