Default Does cruise control apply braking for you?

    as titled,

I have been wondering this for a while now, not sure if its just the fact its a diesel or if my car is actually breaking for me slightly when going down hill?

Also my car has front and rear parking sensors and as im not brave/stupid enough to get close enough to someone, would it sense an impact and turn c/c off and slightly brake.

If it helps my car has c/c s/m t/c eps etc etc.

    Thanks all

No it won't I think it just cuts power if you start going too quick. It WILL not brake if you get too close to other cars. There are cars on the market that have this feature, not the Vectra though.

If you're on cruise and you go down a descent sufficient that the car speeds up, you will notice a manual will retard the fuel slightly and induce engine braking. An auto will drop a gear as well in some cases as the cruise management attempts to maintain the set speed.

You might have noticed that the parking sensors start beeping with an obstruction around 50cm away maybe slightly less. While moving even at say 20mph, you would cover that distance in a fraction of a second. Besides, to activate the park assist system you must be below 15mph and select select reverse (unless you manually activate it)..... how fast do you plan on reversing ??

As above, CC will not activate brakes, it will only induce engine braking as long as you're in the right gear i.e. if you're in fifth gear and heading downhill, you'll just keep getting faster and faster as you won't be in the right gear, for the speeds you'd be doing, to have any engine braking.

The only braking force will be engine braking, if that isn't enough for the descent then you will speed up. Conversely, if the hill is too steep to climb in the gear you are in, then your speed will decrease even if the CC requests full power. Obviously the amount of power and engine braking will change from engine to engine
