    Default Somethings Missing

My aircon, had it on today and if thats aircon I'll be a Chinaman, nothing better than speed enduced cool air, all my other Vx's have been way better, is there an issue with it in general or is it just ****? my mate had his tested on an 05 one two weeks ago, and the AA say it is working but not cooling, looks like another trip to the garage again.

Surprised to hear that VV, mine gets like a fridge, I have to turn it off after a while. Goose bumps and everything mate. I'd get it checked out, may want a recharge.

You've got to use it all year round VV (if you haven't been). This keeps everything running and stops the refrigerant from being lost. If you don't use it during winter and turn it on for the first time in summer, there's a good chance the refrigerant will have leaked out. Not just Vx, AC in general.

You probably just need a recharge. Worst case scenario a new AC compressor.

Seals dry out and crack if it's not used. Mines on all year around. Stops the car steaming up as well.

It's a 04 mate. As MLC says, the seals dry out and crack and the refrigerent disappears. Like him, mine is on constantly, it actually makes your heater more efficient in the winter as well.

Costs about £30 for a re-gassing at my main stealer, so shouldn't take much to get it sorted.

Not good for miles per gallon though if that's the sort of thing that bothers you

I havent had mine on all winter up to last week and it was fine. Had a Zafira for 3 years too and treated this the same and the air con was always ok.

Slightly off topic but I spend a lot of time in the states and the air con in their cars knocks spots of the air con in any British car that I've ever had. American Car Aircon is literally so cold you can't keep it on for long if it's blowing on you. No idea why it's so much better. Better units I guess??

True - it'll make a small difference. I've realised I wasn't clear with what I said before. I wasn't meaning you had to use it all the time all year round. Just that you should turn it on fairly regularly even when it's not summer - obviously just turn the temp dial up a bit! In fact, in winter it'll help to demist the windows muchos quicker with the AC on.

It's just something that's recommended for cars with AC (regular use).

You're maybe lucky. But it definitely shortens the life of the compressor and you're more likely to need to regas more often.

As for the US thing. I guess their cars are so floopin big they can have a larger compressor under the hood. The fact that parts of America have much hotter/humid weather than us, and for more of the year, is probably the main reason. Needs a decent system to cope with it!
