    Default Tesco are getting tight 20p for air and £1 for water !

    Went to tesco early this morning to put air in my tyres, they have installed a new machine,

    20p for air and £1 for up to 5 litres of water what a rip off !

    Can't help with the air but the still water is about 18p for 2L
    in the actual store!

    are you sure it was just water and not screen wash ??? a few garages near me do this

    If it makes you feel any better then it won't just be water, it'll be ready mixed windscreen wash - still a tad expensive but it's becoming more prevalent.

    @ Ste - no, nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head to pay for it but these things (air and water) always have been, and IMO should still be, services offered FOC by the garage given that in most cases people are also buying petrol at the same time. Obviously if it is mixed up screen wash then we can't expect that to be free, but a reasonable charge for it nobody would complain at - but £1 whilst it seems to be the 'norm' for that is taking the pee a bit. 50p maybe. Charging for air is IMO just pure greed. Yes, the machines cost money to buy and maintain but it should be one of those services offered FOC, especially as it's a safety issue too. 20p from someone obviously should be considered as negligible when it comes to tyre safety but it simply increases the possibility of people not checking their tyres - i.e. don't have 20p, long queue at the till to get change etc. so they don't bother.

    Had to go back into the house this afternoon to get some 20p before going to garage,as said saves queuing

    50p on average for air around here...Tesco do do free air and water..but their machines are NEVERRRR working.

    a few round me started charging, but have recently taken out the digital machine and put the old ones with the trigger back, most are free.
    a little customer service doesnt go amiss....
