    Default Vectra c Elite Bonnet stay

    Can I fit a hydraulic bonnet stay to my 55 Elite which as at present just got the steel rod type , I am in a wheel chair and unable to use the rod type

    if you have a facelift then NO YOU CANT, as the ram will bend the bonnet as its just alloy, but the pre face are steel framed with alloy skin. HTH

    I'm still not sure about that. I've heard it repeated MANY times on this site, but seen no one try it, or any bent bonnets!

    Someone did fit the lifters to a facelift bonnet but IIRC they removed them as they were starting to twist the bonnet. Can't remember who it was now though.

    I wonder if fitting a movement restriction on the ram would remove the risk of bending the bonnet? Something as simple as a piece of string, wrapped around the strut so as to not tangle.

    Thanks for all your suggestions my vectra is a facelift , not worth the risk , I will continue using my 2 foot piece of wood , but I do get some funny looks

    Strange, as my old Vectra B had twin bonnet lifters.Could they have done this to the facelift model ?

    Your Vectra-B had a stronger bonnet - made from steel, not aluminium as is the Vectra-C.
